Scorpio's Third Decan: Finding Equilibrium in a Turbulent Season

Reflecting on the Mars-Uranus opposition of November 2023, we explore how to harness intense celestial currents for grounding, community, and personal resilience.

There is a specific kind of cognitive dissonance that arrives when the personal rhythm of life feels at odds with the macro-scale reality of the world. As we moved into the third decan of Scorpio in November 2023, the friction between individual introspection and global unrest became impossible to ignore. For many of us, the attempt to cultivate a sanctuary—a private space for thought, art, and recovery—felt like a necessary act of defiance against a landscape defined by volatility.

The third decan of Scorpio is historically associated with deep emotional excavation. It is not a quiet phase; it is a period of transmutation. During that week, the celestial mechanics—specifically the tension between Mars in Scorpio and Uranus retrograde in Taurus—offered a useful metaphor for the human condition. Mars represents our drive, our impulse toward agency, and our capacity for conflict. Uranus, conversely, serves as the great disrupter, the harbinger of radical change and the unpredictable.

When these two forces opposed one another on November 11th, the atmosphere felt charged with a volatile electricity. In any creative practice, whether you are building a platform or simply maintaining your own mental infrastructure, there is a temptation to let such intensity manifest as reactive, nervous energy. Yet, the sharper path, and perhaps the more sustainable one, is to utilize that intensity as a fuel for grounding.

For those of us working in independent spaces, the question becomes: how do we channel the demand for systemic change into something that isn't merely noise? The answer often lies in the friction itself. By turning toward the body—through tangible acts like physical movement, creative labor, or communal dialogue—we can transmute the anxiety of external instability into a coherent internal direction. The goal is not to suppress the reality of global conflict but to acknowledge it while maintaining the structural integrity of one’s own life.

Meditation, writing, and deliberate stillness are not escapes from the world. They are the essential maintenance required to stay functional and clear-eyed within it. When the world demands your attention with constant, chaotic input, the act of choosing what to focus on becomes your most valuable asset. It is how we define the boundaries of our own agency.

As we reflect back on that period, the lesson remains pertinent: look to your community for grounding. The act of sharing stories and engaging in honest, analog connection is, in itself, a form of infrastructure. It provides a feedback loop that the digital world often fails to supply. We build resilience not by weathering storms in isolation, but by recognizing the collective weight of the moment and finding space to breathe, create, and remain centered despite the noise.

For those interested in exploring these archetypal patterns further as tools for creative and personal navigation, my ongoing work continues to be documented at my official site, the 'Moonstruck' archives, and through the community hub on Patreon.
