According to Wikipedia “a Zine is a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images. The word zine is short for magazine or fanzine, and refers to ‘self-publications, motivated by a desire for self-expression, not for profit’, according to the Barnard Zine Library.
Dissidents and members of socially marginalized groups have published their own opinions in leaflet and pamphlet form for as long as such technology has been available.
Zines are typically experimental cultural fragments defined by being created and distributed outside of mainstream publication centers. They have the opportunity to reach selected, specific audiences, and often create pockets of intimate, subcultural communities.”
